Abstract: This lecture is part of the IICD & Probability and Society Initiative Joint Seminar Series, mini-series on Some mathematical models of evolution.
How does spatial structure of a population interact with genetic drift? And what about the interaction with selection? We introduce some (classical and not so classical) mathematical models that aim to capture these key forces acting on a population and, as time permits, investigate the way in which spatial structure influences the effectiveness of natural selection.
